In homage to George Sheridan, creator of the Art Collection at La Residencia, and to honour the work he did during his years in Deiá, La Residencia has created an Art Prize to support the local artistic community.
George worked tirelessly in support of local artistic talent in order to give promising artists a real career opportunity. For an artist to achieve exhibition status is a difficult and expensive task and for many an impossible dream. George knew this and wanted to give them a unique chance of having their own exhibition. With the help of La Residencia he was able to make the dream of many come true.
George Sheridan’s widow, Cecilie, an artist in her own right, carries on George’s work and the art exhibitions continue at La Residencia.
The Art Prize selection will be a biennial event and a jury will choose a representative from the local artistic community whom it considers to be an outstanding talent. The artist will receive a commemorative certificate and a cash prize to assist him or her in their future art work.
The Jury will decide upon the prize winner among all artists who have exhibited work in the hotel’s Art Gallery in the previous two years. The first prize will be awarded at the end of 2009.
La Residencia is proud to continue its patronage of the local art community while celebrating the wonderful legacy left by George Sheridan.
