Mount Nelson Hotel

South Africa’s leading tourist destination and the 2010 World Cup

The draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup took place earlier this month and now that the World Cup match schedule is confirmed, Capetonians are counting down to and gearing up for the first official kick-off at Green Point Stadium on Friday 11 June…

The city’s striking new stadium will host eight matches in total – five Group Matches, one Round of 16, a Quarter-final and a Semi-final. Teams confirmed to play in the Group Matches are: Uruguay and France (11 June), Italy and Paraguay (14 June), England and Algeria (18 June), Portugal and Korea DPR (21 June), Camerroon and Netherlands (24 June).

Around half a million supporters are expected to visit South Africa for the world’s biggest international football competition, and in addition to a new stadium, Cape Town now also boasts a world-class airport, a mere 20-minute drive away from the city.

Cape Town’s spectacular natural landscape and it’s moderate Winter climate is legendary, so in addition to the games, 2010 World Cup supporters can look forward to the exquisite scenery as seen from the likes of the top of Table Mountain, a drive along the Atlantic Seaboard or False Bay coastline to the dramatic Cape Point, or a leisurely day-trip to the romantic Franschhoek or Stellenbosch wine lands. And no visit to Cape Town is complete without stopping by or staying over at the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel…

In terms of setting, location and convenience, Mount Nelson Hotel, located on a secluded garden estate resort in the heart of the city centre, is the ideal gateway to the World Cup. Situated close enough to the football action (a mere ten minutes drive from the Green Point Stadium) to be convenient, but far enough away from the crowds to provide post-match and post-party relaxation, it boasts two heated swimming pools, rolling lawns and family-friendly gardens, a heaven-scented destination spa, a world famous daily Afternoon Tea, and Planet Bar – the city’s most glamorous bar.

A complimentary guest shuttle service is available to popular places of interest (cultural highlights, restaurants and shopping destinations), and complimentary use of the business centre makes it easy to close the deal without missing the game.
