The island of Madeira woke up in the last few days with a clear sky. As images featured on the Association for the Promotion of Madeira demonstrate (http://www.youtube.com/user/APMadeiraPT), the bay of Funchal and the main city areas of the Sé Cathedral, Avenida Arriaga and Avenida do Mar are again accessible to both locals and tourists.
The adverse meteorological conditions that affected the island on the 20th of February have now been replaced by the usual Madeiran sunny sky, and works to clear the island from debris and repair the damages caused by the storms are continuing efficiently with good results.
Orient-Express Hotels Ltd can advise that its property, Reid’s Palace, was not damaged in the severe storms. Reid’s Palace has been cooperating with the local authorities to support its surrounding community.
The hotel has already supplied more than 500 meals since Sunday to workers of the civil protection engaged in the reconstruction works and to the less fortunate residents that still have to stay away from their homes, which were damaged or destroyed by the floods and mudslides. Reid’s Palace also provided some linen, pillows and blankets.
Madeira’s airport is fully operational and the road from the airport to Reid’s Palace is clear.
Guests who have booked to travel to Reid’s Palace in the next few days and have any concerns should contact their travel consultant. Further information is available from:
